How does thrifting help the planet??
In a world of fast fashion, where most textiles are made with micro plastic materials and wear out well before their lifetime, thrifting is the answer we need. If we can vote with our dollar and not purchase the items from fast fashion companies we can make a difference in the retail industry. By choosing thrifted items you are saving items from ending up in the landfill.
What is fast fashion you ask?Well According to wikipedia :
"Fast fashion is a contemporary term used by fashion retailers for designs that move from catwalk quickly to capture current fashion trends. A second, critical definition adds that fast fashion is not only about quickly moving from runway to store to consumer, but also to the garbage."
In Canada alone we throw out around 81 pounds of textiles a year!! These are items that can be fixed, or donated to thrift stores and given a second life!

We are seeing the end of a lot of big box retail stores. Some believe it is due to online shopping and others believe that it is due to Gen Z's need for more sustainable items. Which means that they're supporting Small businesses again to find these products. Whatever it is, I am happy to see the world taking a step backwards in time to when being Green and sustainable was a normal way of life.
